Choose the chart, instrument and timeframe
Open a workspace with a loaded chart. Check the instrument symbol and daily, weekly or monthly timeframe. With two charts, first select the chart you intend to annotate.
A drawing belongs to a particular chart, instrument and timeframe. Note all three before starting. Switching timeframe or instrument can hide the previous drawings; that alone does not mean they were deleted.
Place a horizontal level
Find the horizontal-line icon above the chart. Its hover label distinguishes it from the horizontal ray. Select the line and left-click once at the desired height in the price panel.
Switch to the selection arrow and click the completed line. Open drawing settings with the three-slider icon to the right of T. Adjust colour, width, line pattern and the price label if needed. Displaying a price label does not change the level you selected.
Outline an area with a rectangle
Select the rectangle tool. The first click places one corner and the second places the opposite corner. Use different dates and prices to make a visible area. The rectangle marks your chosen area; it does not calculate its boundaries.
Return to the selection arrow and left-click the rectangle. Dragging its body moves the whole area; dragging an anchor changes a boundary. If another object was selected, select the intended object again first.
Edit the selected drawing, not future defaults
Check that the intended object is selected before opening settings. With no drawing selected, the settings button changes the style for new drawings. Changing a colour without selecting the existing rectangle may therefore leave that rectangle unchanged.
Use the selection arrow and settings button for editing. These tools currently have no right-click menu. Keep this exercise to one line and one rectangle until you have checked that both were saved.
Correct a mistake without clearing everything
The trash button removes the selected object. Use Undo to reverse an action and Redo to apply it again. Clearing all drawings on the active chart is a separate action that asks for confirmation.
If an object disappears after switching, first restore the original instrument, timeframe and chart. Do not clear everything to find one object. Different charts and timeframes keep separate annotations.
Save and check both objects
Choose Save workspace and wait for confirmation. A line appearing on screen does not by itself confirm that it was saved to your account. If saving fails, resolve the displayed message before closing the workspace.
Reopen the saved workspace and return to the same instrument, timeframe and chart. Check the line and rectangle, their positions and styles. A workspace view stores appearance; drawings belong to the workspace. Saving a view does not replace saving the workspace.
Primary sources
Sources explain the mechanics and limitations; the editorial examples use invented numbers rather than market quotations.
Your next practical step
Repeat this on your loaded chart: one line, one rectangle, then save and reopen the workspace.
